Ayurveda is the oldest system of medicine that originated in India over 5000 years ago. It is gaining popularity in the west as Alternative Medicine. Ayurveda is the sister science of Yoga, more accurately known as the Healing side of Yoga.

Physiology (body types) in Ayurveda are defined in terms of 3 Doshas which are made up of the 5 elements of nature – Air, Water, Fire, earth and Ether.

  • Vata (air + ether) : Facilitates movement and circulation.
  • Pitta (fire + water) : Facilitates digestion and metabolism.
  • Kapha (earth + water) : Facilitates structure and stability.

These elements in balance ensure optimum health and when out of balance, they cause discomfort. Disease is a cumulative effect of routines and habits that do not align with our constitution. Ayurveda offers tools that activate the body’s ability to reverse these imbalances as naturally as possible and maintain optimum health.
